Business, Education, Parent and Community Partnerships Enhance Character

Spelling Bee
Partnerships enhance character by implicitly sharing leadership in our character initiative.

Partnerships such as the one we share with Lockheed Martin and our 8th grade science classes enhance rigor and academic excellence.

Following a Literacy Talk by our Librarians Kay Haskell and Beth Uckele the King of Prussia Rotary donated $2000 to the middle school for books about character.  Students were also invited to the Saturday Evening Post Museum as part of the Rotary Literacy Plan.

We share an excellent partnership with the Upper Merion Police Department who provide D.A.R.E. and Cops and Kids for the 6th and 5th grades respectively.

State Representative Briggs sponsored a “There Ought To Be A Law” essay contest and he has been a constant in our school stressing the importance of good citizenship and character.

We share an in-depth partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department and Upper Merion Township instituting character through sports, activities and Earth Day.

The Valley Forge Optimists are involved in activities as Friends of Youth throughout the year.  They award the Partner in Education Award to a deserving educator annually and 8 awards have been earned by middle school personnel.

The Upper Merion Senior Service Center participates in Intergenerational Day, the Spelling Bee and a variety of musical performances with the middle school.  Senior citizens in turn mentor and tutor our students.

The Middle School PTC actively spreads character through community by volunteering, supporting Community of Caring, D.A.R.E, the 5K Walk and Lunch Bunch.  The Parent Portal, e-alerts, newsletters (13), Connect Ed, positive postcards, websites, Martin Luther King, Jr Celebration Committee and parent workshops (Guiding Good Choices/Cyber Bullying) expand our extraordinary partnerships, input and communication with parents about Character Education.

Other partners include the Johns Hopkins National Network of Partnership Schools, Upper Merion Township Library, The Courier, Famous George’s Pizzeria, Angelo’s Pizzeria, Amedeos, The Salvation Army, Lonza, UMAGA TV, Cabrini College, Immaculata University, West Chester University,  SPCA,  Montgomery County Hospice and Hospital, New Century Bank, Family Services, St. John’s Soup Kitchen, Senator Daylin Leach, Veteran’s Administration, Red Cross, National Breast Cancer Foundation, Coaches vs. Cancer, St. Barnabas Facility, Laurel House and UNICEF.
