Information for Students CONTINUING Band from 4th Grade

ENROLLMENT

There are two ways to enroll your child:

  1. The parent can complete this form (click here), OR
  2. The student can tell Mr. Nguyen directly that they would like to continue with band in 5th grade. Mr. Nguyen will send the parent a follow-up email.

The deadline for enrollment is Thursday, September 4, 2025.

RENTING AN INSTRUMENT

Please rent an instrument from Music and Arts if your child does not already have an instrument. More instrument rental information can be found on this page (CLICK HERE).

  • Please DO NOT buy an instrument from Amazon.com or another vendor without asking Mr. Nguyen first. Instruments from Amazon and certain other vendors are often of low quality and break easily.
  • If you need any assistance with renting an instrument, please contact me.
  • Please purchase your child the required supplies on this page (CLICK HERE).
  • Parents of percussion students should read the information at the bottom of this page (CLICK HERE) before renting an instrument.

LESSONS AND REHEARSALS

  • Weekly lessons will begin during the week of September 8. Mr. Nguyen will post the lesson schedule on Schoology.
  • Students will leave their core class to come to a 30-minute lesson once a week.
  • Students will have 45-minute rehearsals with the full band once a week every Tuesday from 8:00 AM to 8:45 AM. The first rehearsal will be on September 16.
  • Students are responsible for making up any work from academic classes that they miss.
  • If your child needs to miss their lesson for a test, quiz, or other important material, they must email me to let me know.

PRACTICING EXPECTATIONS

  • Students are expected to spend a total of 80 minutes per week learning the skills that they are taught in their lesson. I recommend 10-20 minutes a day on 5 days of the week. 20 minutes or more on 5 days of the week is ideal.
  • Students are to document the time that they spend practicing on a practice log with a parent/guardian signature.

CONCERTS

All second-year students must attend and perform in the band's concerts on December 11, 2025 and May 21, 2026 at 7:00 PM.
